Seattle
has alternately been called The Rainy City (for obvious and famous reasons), The Emerald City, and The Gateway to Alaska, as continental America's northwestern-most major city. It's not only America's capitol of the Pacific Northwest; Seattle is also a small town growing up quickly.
Our pioneer city is an interesting one; although the roads are poorly designed, the city planners obviously put a great deal of thought into aesthetics. The skyline is a work of art, particularly from the north with Mt Ranier in the background.
The heart of downtown is actually a couple of miles from the Space Needle ... the photos above hide this fact, again by shooting from the north. In daylight the glaciated mountain would be visible in the background, but Seattle is especially well suited to night photos. The arcitecture is unique, creative, and takes a diverse array of influences, but the way the buildings light up when the sun goes down can only be described with the thousand words any of the photos above represent.
