A gentle stream in Big Basin State Park.

Stream and Cascades, Big Basin State Park

This photo was a lot more difficult than it might look to shoot. The driftwood was shimmering red, contrasting beautifully against the bluish afternoon light reflecting off the "whitewater" around the stick. Warm and cool together can make for dramatic landscape photography, so this was a natural subject to shoot. Unfortunately, getting close enough to show detail in the branch meant walking out on stones that got more and more narrow toward the middle of the river, and setting up the tripod in the current. Balancing on the stones, I couldn't reach the camera to see through the viewfinder to get focus, or could I see the image on the LCD.
